The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of Wilson Nahun Figuero-Argueta from West Union on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree. He is currently held in jail on a $50,000 surety bond.
According to the agency, deputies initiated an investigation in October 2022 following a report of a teenager being sexually assaulted. The Department of Social Services (DSS) was notified, and a Violent Crime Unit investigator took over the case. Evidence reportedly indicated that Figuero-Argueta had sexual relations with the victim in 2022. He was booked at approximately 12:19 a.m. on Monday and remains detained under specific conditions, including electronic monitoring if released.
Bond and custody conditions are explicitly outlined by deputies: a $50,000 surety bond with an electronic monitoring requirement upon release. The booking took place at around 12:19 a.m. Monday at the Oconee County Detention Center. These terms serve as pretrial risk management measures while the investigation continues, aligning with regional reporting on the arrest announcement.
South Carolina law permits certain juveniles to be tried as adults under specific circumstances. The statute specifies that individuals aged 17 or older charged with Class A, B, C, or D felonies are not treated as “children,” allowing for younger teens to be tried as adults for serious felonies. The Sheriff’s release noted that Figuero-Argueta was 17 at the time of the alleged conduct in 2022, consistent with these legal provisions for adult jurisdiction in qualifying cases.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office operates from its headquarters in Walhalla, South Carolina, providing various services including patrols, detention operations, investigations, court security, and community outreach.
