The Nuclear Company has announced the establishment of its primary engineering and construction office in Columbia, South Carolina, intending to create over 100 new jobs. The firm, known for its innovative approach to nuclear construction, is embarking on this expansion to evaluate sites for its planned 6-gigawatt fleet of nuclear reactors.

The company’s approach to nuclear power development involves a fleet-scale deployment strategy. By implementing a design-once, build-many methodology, The Nuclear Company aims to reduce costs and minimize delays, utilizing advanced construction techniques and digital technologies such as AI-driven site selection.

This development follows the conclusion of a Series A funding round led by Eclipse, with additional investments from CIV, True Ventures, Wonder Ventures, Goldcrest Capital, and MCJ Collective.

Jonathan Webb, The Nuclear Company’s Co-founder and CEO, highlighted the importance of maintaining America’s leadership in nuclear technology, stating, “America’s longstanding leadership in nuclear power is threatening to slip away… AI and the electrification of everything need nuclear’s firm, clean baseload power.”

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster emphasized the economic benefits of attracting businesses like The Nuclear Company, saying, “Reliable, affordable energy is essential for our future prosperity, and this investment marks another step toward securing a bright future for our state.”

Greg Reichow, a partner at Eclipse, commented on the scalability of The Nuclear Company’s approach, comparing it to advancements in the automotive and aerospace sectors. “Eclipse is thrilled to support this team as they execute on their ambitious mission,” Reichow said, indicating that he will join the company’s board.

The new office in Columbia represents an effort by The Nuclear Company to address America’s growing energy demands and contribute to the region’s economy.
