Christopher Garrett Yarbrough, a 33-year-old resident of Newberry, South Carolina, has been arrested on charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest was announced by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson.
The investigation was conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from investigators in the Attorney General’s Office, which is also part of the state’s ICAC Task Force. Authorities received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) through their CyberTipline, which led them to Yarbrough. According to investigators, Yarbrough distributed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Yarbrough was taken into custody on October 11, 2025. He faces one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree under South Carolina law (§16-15-405), a felony that carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
Attorney General Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is now used as a more accurate term for this type of offense because it reflects the abusive nature of these crimes. The use of “pornography” can imply consent from minors; therefore, globally, CSAM is replacing terms like child pornography.
