Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on February 7.

After cold days, a winter ice storm and a dusting of snow along the Grand Strand in the last few weeks, we are especially thankful for the work of the the electric company.

Santee Cooper is South Carolina’s state-owned electric and water utility and the state’s largest power producer.

When the threat of winter weather arose, Santee Cooper activated their emergency operations procedures and had crews working through conditions that included freezing rain to quickly restore power for customers.

Santee Cooper is a corporate sponsor of Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and has been a chamber investor since 1979. The utility company and its employees are actively involved in the communities where they live and work through volunteer service and financial donations to area nonprofits.

We recognized the utility company as the winner of the 2020 Community Service Award at our Annual Meeting, awarded in a combined ceremony with the 2021 awards in April 2021.
