Head Coach Marty Richter announced on May 2 that Ries Naugle will join the University of South Carolina Upstate men’s basketball team for the 2026-27 season. Naugle transfers to Upstate after playing his redshirt freshman season at Bloomsburg University, a Division II school.
The addition of Naugle is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the team ahead of the upcoming season. His performance at Bloomsburg included leading his team in scoring with an average of 11.9 points per game, shooting 44 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range. He also recorded an 84 percent free throw percentage and contributed defensively with averages of one block and one steal per game.
Naugle’s high school career at Selinsgrove High School in Pennsylvania saw him average 21.3 points per game during his senior year, highlighting his ability to score consistently throughout different levels of competition.
Richter said, “We are all excited that Ries has committed to joining the Spartan family.” He continued, “He brings not only a high-level ability to score the ball but is also a high-level student and young man! We look forward to seeing him grow beginning when he arrives on campus this summer.”
Naugle will have an opportunity to further develop both athletically and academically as he transitions into his new role at USC Upstate this summer.
