The Lowcountry Rapid Transit project has reached its 100 percent design milestone, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce announced on May 2. This development allows the community to preview updated station designs and learn more about upcoming construction and job opportunities through a virtual meeting available until May 27.
The milestone is significant for regional transportation, as it signals progress toward construction while offering new ways for residents and businesses to participate in planning. The chamber said stakeholder engagement remains a priority, with several neighborhood workshops scheduled throughout May to gather feedback from riders, local businesses, and community members.
Workshops are planned at Reynolds Avenue Station on May 19 at Keith Summey Library, Aviation/Remount Road Station on May 20 at BCDCOG Board Room, and Mall Drive Station later that evening at Ferndale Community Center. These sessions are designed to ensure broad participation in shaping the future of transit in North Charleston.
In addition to transit updates, the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority is accepting public comments for the state’s Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) through May 15. The QAP determines how Low-Income Housing Tax Credits are awarded based on criteria such as location, cost efficiency, amenities, and policy priorities. According to organizers, this process plays a key role in deciding which affordable housing projects move forward each year.
A draft of the next QAP will be released June 12 ahead of an annual workshop this summer. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit suggestions by email before the deadline if they wish to influence funding priorities or scoring criteria for future developments.
According to the official website, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce supports talent development initiatives that strengthen the regional economy.
