U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina expressed his approval following the passage of the Laken Riley Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill was passed with a vote count of 263-156, having previously cleared the Senate with a 64-35 vote.
The legislation, introduced by Senator Katie Boyd Britt from Alabama, now awaits President Trump’s signature to become law. Graham is an original cosponsor of the bill.
Graham stated, “I am so pleased the Laken Riley Act is on its way to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law. I appreciate my House colleagues for swiftly passing this legislation.”
He emphasized that the law aims to ensure quick detention and deportation of illegal immigrants charged with crimes. Referring to a specific case, he said, “The illegal immigrant who murdered Laken Riley was arrested for theft and released back onto the streets, and unfortunately, the rest is history.”
Graham also commended Senator Britt’s leadership on this issue: “I was proud to support this bill and once again commend Senator Britt for her leadership on this issue.”
