South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the sentencing of Daniel Wayne Robert Miller, a Lexington County resident, to 40 years in prison for child sex crimes. On March 24, 2025, Miller pleaded guilty to charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor, First Degree, and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, First Degree.
The case began on April 8, 2021, when Investigator Cameron Sherban from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip indicated that files containing child sexual abuse material had been uploaded to an online account linked to Miller. Following this lead, law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the electronic service provider and uncovered numerous videos and images of child sexual abuse material. Among these were multiple videos showing Miller sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl in December 2020 and January and February 2021.
Miller was located in Lexington County on June 3rd, 2021, with assistance from investigators from the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office. During an interview with authorities, he admitted to sexually assaulting the young girl between 15 and 20 times over two years at his home.
A forensic examination conducted by Forensic Examiner Jamie Johnson of the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office revealed videos of Miller’s assaults as well as screen-recorded conversations from online chat sites where he offered to share videos of the assaults.
Judge Debra McCaslin sentenced Miller to serve 30 years at the South Carolina Department of Corrections for Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor. This will be followed by an additional 10 years for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, totaling a sentence of 40 years. He was credited for the time already served—1,390 days—and will be required to register as a sex offender with mandatory GPS monitoring for life.
Attorney General Wilson acknowledged “all the work law enforcement officers with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office did on this case,” as well as “the help Investigators with the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit provided.” The effort involved multiple agencies working together across various locations in Lexington County.
