South Carolina softball player Lexi Winters was named to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Community Service Team, according to a May 5 announcement from the conference.
The SEC Community Service Team recognizes one athlete from each school who has demonstrated outstanding service in their community. The honor highlights student-athletes who make significant contributions off the field through volunteer work and engagement with local organizations.
Winters, a graduate student from Lexington, South Carolina, played in all 55 games this season for the Gamecocks, primarily as catcher. She recorded a .235 batting average with 16 runs batted in and 10 doubles. She is ranked third in the SEC for runners caught stealing with eight. Last season, she was selected for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region Second Team and also earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators All-America Third Team.
During her two seasons at South Carolina, Winters volunteered more than 25 hours within her hometown community. Her activities included visiting elementary schools to speak at pep rallies, organizing canned food drives for Gamecock Pantry, coordinating health and hygiene donation drives at middle schools, and helping build bikes for children during Christmas. She also participated in events such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Cocky’s All Sports Camp where she taught children softball skills. Additionally, she volunteered multiple times with Miracle League by assisting children with disabilities during baseball games.
The recognition of Winters reflects ongoing efforts by student-athletes to contribute positively beyond athletics. The SEC Community Service Teams aim to encourage continued involvement in community initiatives among college athletes.
