Dorchester County announced on Apr. 28 that it will host the 2026 Hurricane Expo and Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ashley River Park in Summerville.
The event aims to help residents prepare for hurricane season by providing access to emergency preparedness experts and local first responders. Community members can learn about safety measures while enjoying family activities at the park.
Attendees will have the chance to meet representatives from organizations such as the National Weather Service, South Carolina Emergency Management, and Dorchester County Emergency Management. There will also be a “Touch-a-Truck” display featuring safety vehicles, along with other vendors who can answer questions about services like mosquito abatement, law enforcement, animal control, and more.
Dorchester County supports community welfare through programs addressing homelessness, mental health needs, mosquito control efforts and public safety according to the official website. The county manages facilities including Ashley River Park—where the expo is held—as well as Pine Trace Park, senior centers, libraries and a career and technology center according to the official website.

The Hurricane Expo is open to all ages with no cost for entry beyond a $2 park admission fee per person over age three.
