Furman’s Kristyn Embler was named to the second team All-Southern Conference and selected for the conference’s all-freshman squad, according to a May 5 announcement.

Embler, who is from Harrisburg, North Carolina, played a key role for Furman during the regular season. She batted .310 with seven doubles, four triples—the most on her team—five home runs, and drove in 22 runs. As a pitcher, she earned eight of Furman’s 13 wins while pitching 117.1 innings this season.

On April 4, Embler pitched a complete-game shutout that led Furman to a 3-0 win over UNC Greensboro, the Southern Conference regular season champion. She also helped secure league victories against Mercer and Wofford.

The Paladins finished their regular season with a record of 13-39 overall and went 5-16 in conference play. They are set as the No. 8 seed for this week’s Southern Conference Softball Championship and will face No. 5 seed Chattanooga (22-27-1 overall) at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga on Wednesday morning. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with links available at FurmanPaladins.com.

The postseason awards also recognized Olivia Shaw of Samford as Player of the Year; Brooklyn Shroyer of UNC Greensboro as Pitcher of the Year; Avery Bouquin of UNC Greensboro as Freshman of the Year; and Janelle Breneman of UNC Greensboro as Coach of the Year.

Looking ahead, if Furman wins its opening game against Chattanooga, they will advance to play No. 4 seed Wofford later that day in double elimination play.
