South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Alfred Peake, Jr., a 50-year-old resident of Elgin, South Carolina. Peake faces charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was carried out by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Attorney General’s Office. Additional support came from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Secret Service, South Carolina Department of Corrections, and Camden Police Department.
The investigation began after receiving a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which led authorities to Peake. According to investigators, Peake distributed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Peake was taken into custody on July 1, 2025. He is charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (§16-15-405). This felony offense carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office. Attorney General Wilson emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is considered a more accurate term for these crimes than “child pornography,” as it avoids implying any consent by minors involved. The term CSAM is increasingly used worldwide for this reason.
