Governor Henry McMaster announced the confirmation of Joel Anderson as the new Director of the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC). Anderson, who has spent more than two decades with the department, was serving as interim director prior to his official appointment.
“With more than 20 years at the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Joel Anderson understands this agency from the inside out and the responsibility that comes with this role,” said Governor Henry McMaster. “Since stepping in as interim director, he has provided steady leadership with a clear focus on public safety, and I am confident he is the right person to continue leading SCDC forward.”
Governor McMaster has emphasized priorities such as economic development, public safety, education, and heritage preservation during his administration. He began serving as South Carolina’s 117th governor on January 24, 2017, later winning full terms in subsequent elections. His responsibilities include governance and policy oversight across the state and managing state government operations under the constitution. McMaster maintains an official office at the State House in Columbia.
