WASHINGTON – Last night, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) participated in a Town Hall in Des Moines, Iowa to discuss the role of federal and state lawmakers in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
Graham spoke about his legislation which would establish a fifteen-week federal minimum standard for abortion.
He was joined at the Town Hall by Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, Bob Vander Plaats, president of The Family Leader, Mayra Rodriguez, former Planned Parenthood director and whistleblower, along with Family Research Council president Tony Perkins.
At the Town Hall Graham said:
- “This idea that the states are the only game in town is wrong. There is not a closed-for-business sign out in front of the House and the Senate when it comes to the unborn.”
- “My bill will create a national minimum standard, you can do more, you can do 6 weeks. You can do whatever you want to at the state level, but at fifteen weeks I want to draw a line for the soul of America. What good comes from aborting a child who sucks his thumb, can feel pain at 15 weeks in the birthing process? That is a reasonable position to take.”
- “Science tells us that at 15 weeks the nerve ending of a child is well developed, to the point that you have to provide anesthesia if you want to save the babies life because you don’t want to hurt the patient in the name of healing the patient.”
- “This is a human rights issue. Does it really matter where you’re conceived?”
