ICE Atlanta has announced the arrest of Adan Guerrero-Gonzalez, a 50-year-old Mexican national, on September 22. Guerrero-Gonzalez was previously convicted in South Carolina of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

According to ICE’s “Worst of the Worst” initiative, this arrest is part of their effort to highlight noncitizens with serious criminal convictions, focusing on public safety threats for enforcement and removal. Field offices work with local partners to locate and apprehend fugitives or recent arrestees whose records include violent felonies such as homicide, sexual assault, or armed robbery. This approach is generally supported by law-and-order advocates who argue that immigration enforcement should prioritize those posing the highest risks to communities.

ICE reports that Guerrero-Gonzalez was arrested by Atlanta ERO officers on September 22. He had been convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Hardeeville, South Carolina, and received a 15-year prison sentence. The case summary provides numeric anchors such as age, date, offense, and sentencing term used to prioritize him for enforcement action consistent with ICE’s focus on violent felons.

Under South Carolina law, voluntary manslaughter is defined at S.C. Code §16-3-50 and is punishable by imprisonment ranging from two to thirty years. This statutory range highlights the seriousness of the offense category referenced by ICE and provides context for the reported 15-year sentence tied to Guerrero-Gonzalez’s conviction.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), established in 2003 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., enforces federal immigration and customs laws through two main directorates: Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). ERO identifies, arrests, detains, and removes removable noncitizens—prioritizing those with criminal convictions—while HSI pursues transnational crime. The agency publishes arrest bulletins and maintains public tip lines to support community safety and constitutional enforcement.
