Hydrite Chemical Co., a manufacturer and distributor of chemical solutions, has announced plans to expand its operations in Laurens County, South Carolina. The company will invest $63 million in the project and expects to create 13 new jobs.

Founded in 1929, Hydrite operates three business units focused on food and beverage solutions, manufactured solutions, and agriculture and sulfur solutions. In addition to its Laurens County facility, the company maintains manufacturing sites, warehouses, and laboratories in several states including California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Texas.

The expansion will take place at a 43-acre greenfield site in Hunter Industrial Park. This location is set to become the main hub for Hydrite’s Southeast operations following the recent acquisition of Enterprise Specialty Products Inc. The new development includes a planned 50,000-square-foot building with offices, laboratories, warehouses as well as areas for operations and logistics dedicated to chemical manufacturing and distribution. The company anticipates that the facility will be operational by 2028.

To support the project’s site preparation and construction costs, Laurens County received a $300,000 Set-Aside grant from the Coordinating Council for Economic Development.

“Building on our recent acquisition of Enterprise Specialty Products, Inc. in Laurens County, we’re proud to deepen our roots in South Carolina with a new greenfield facility. The state’s exceptional business climate and talented workforce make it the right place to invest, create quality jobs and better serve customers across the Southeast and beyond. We are grateful for the support from South Carolina and look forward to being a long-term partner in the Laurens County community’s growth,” said Hydrite CEO Kevin Honkamp.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster commented on the announcement: “Thanks to South Carolina’s strong business environment, companies like Hydrite Chemical Co. continue to find success in our state. We congratulate Hydrite on this expansion and look forward to the new opportunities this investment will create in Laurens County.” Governor McMaster leads initiatives supporting economic development within South Carolina through his office’s efforts such as fostering partnerships with local governments and advancing programs related to workforce training according to information available on the official website.
