Horry County Government announced on May 1 that the current outdoor burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Horry County will be lifted effective Monday, May 4.
The decision means residents in these areas may resume open burning but must continue to follow all regulations set forth in the county ordinance regarding open burning. The county reminds residents that “all open burning in Horry County requires you to contact the South Carolina Forestry Commission at 1-800-986-5404, before the burn is started.”
Officials urge caution even when a burn ban is not in place. “Even when the burn ban is not in place, we ask for consideration and due diligence when actively involved in open burning. Always remember to lean on the side of safety, and do not burn in windy or dry conditions,” said county representatives.

Horry County is positioned in northeastern South Carolina and covers 1,134 square miles, making it the largest county by land area in the state; it operates under a Council-Administrator form of government with public services aimed at supporting community well-being and economic growth, according to the official website.
Broader implications include increased responsibility among residents as fire restrictions ease ahead of warmer months. Local authorities stress ongoing vigilance to ensure public safety.
