The Citadel defeated Presbyterian 7-2 in the opening game of a three-game weekend baseball series on May 1, with pitcher Will Holmes delivering a strong performance at Elton Pollock Field.

The result is significant as it puts The Citadel ahead in the series and highlights balanced contributions from both offense and pitching. Holmes pitched seven innings, striking out eight batters while allowing two runs on five hits and four walks. Ben Brash and CJ Van Slooten finished the final two innings, giving up just one hit between them.

Six different Bulldogs players drove in runs during the game. Sam Dansky led with two hits, while Michael Gibson and TJ Anderson each contributed a hit, scored a run, and recorded an RBI. Anderson also stole two bases. Aryan Patel added an RBI single, scored three times, and had three steals.

Presbyterian’s Cam Mallo managed two hits for his team. Amman Dewberry and Jonathan Williams each brought home a run for Presbyterian. Tyrell Williams took the loss after pitching four innings for Presbyterian.

“Good start to the series. We didn’t do anything great, but played solid in all phases of the game,” head coach Russell Triplett said. “Holmes gave us a quality start and our bullpen continued to be good. We played defense and took advantage of a few mistakes they made and executed early in the game.”

The series will continue on Saturday, May 2, with game two scheduled at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.
