HII, a global defense provider, has announced the establishment of its first South Carolina operation in Berkeley County. This move follows the acquisition of assets from W International SC, LLC and Vivid Empire SC, LLC, collectively known as “W International.” The South Carolina-based company specializes in complex metal fabrication for shipbuilding structures. HII’s investment is expected to create over 250 new jobs.

The Virginia-headquartered company manufactures naval ships and defense technology solutions for clients including the U.S. Navy. With over 135 years of experience and a workforce of 44,000 employees nationwide, HII completed this transaction on January 22, 2025. The company plans to invest in new equipment and retrofit the acquired facility at 2040 Bushy Park Road in Goose Creek to align with its manufacturing needs.

The renovated facility will operate under HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division and support Virginia-class, Columbia-class, and aircraft carrier programs. Operations are set to continue without interruption. Interested individuals can apply through HII’s careers page.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project and awarded a $750,000 Set-Aside grant to Berkeley County for building improvements.

“HII is committed to going where the labor is to increase capacity and increase throughput for our national security customers,” said Chris Kastner, President and CEO of HII. “This transaction is a win-win with our new partners in South Carolina – we’re excited to bring work and grow jobs.”

Governor Henry McMaster commented on the development: “HII establishing operations in Berkeley County further solidifies South Carolina’s reputation as the ideal location for advanced manufacturing.”

Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III added: “Today’s announcement by HII is a tremendous victory for the Lowcountry and South Carolina’s world-class workforce.”
