The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced the closure of the Hawthorne Avenue bridge over Jimmies Creek in Spartanburg County. This decision follows a routine inspection that identified the need for repairs. The bridge will remain closed until these repairs are completed.

To accommodate this closure, SCDOT has established a detour route. Northbound traffic on Hawthorne Road (S-42-769) will be redirected to turn left onto Edgewood Circle (S-42-738), then right onto E. Hayne Street (S-42-177), and finally return to Hawthorne Road. For southbound traffic, drivers will turn right onto E. Hayne Street, then left onto Edgewood Circle, and end back at Hawthorne Road.

Local traffic is permitted on Hawthorne Avenue except at the bridge site. SCDOT advises drivers to reduce speed and heed signs and crews while navigating through the area.

“SCDOT encourages the public to stay tuned to our website and social media for further information on the timeline for repairs,” said an SCDOT representative.
