H-2A Insights: Employers classified under the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting industry in South Carolina submitted 6,357 petitions in 2024

Employers classified under the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting industry based in South Carolina submitted 6,357 H-2A job orders during 2024, according to data provided by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services via the H-2A Employer Data Hub.

Of these, 6,252 were approved (98.3%), while 105 were denied (1.7%).

Employers are classified under industries based on their reported operations and may be involved in multiple industries.

The H-2A visa program allows U.S. employers to hire foreign workers for temporary or seasonal agricultural jobs when enough domestic workers are unavailable. Employers must demonstrate a short-term need and that hiring foreign workers will not negatively affect U.S. workers’ wages or working conditions. These jobs must first be offered to U.S. workers, and both domestic and H-2A workers must receive at least the highest of the Adverse Effect Wage Rate (AEWR) or other wage benchmarks.

The average approval rate for H-2A petitions across the United States in 2024 stood at 98.8%, slightly higher than the 98.4% recorded in 2023. Statewide, employers across all industries filed 6,521 job orders during the same period, with an approval rate of 98.4%.

While the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting industry led the H-2A filings with 6,357, representing 97.5% of all submissions in South Carolina during 2024, the next largest contributor was the Manufacturing industry, which accounted for 157 petitions and represented 2.4% of the total. Among petitions from employers in the Manufacturing industry, all of them were approved.

The South Carolina employers with the most petitions categorized under the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting sector during 2024 included Del Norte Harvesting, LLC, which filed 1,712 petitions with an approval rate of 99.9%, South Carolina Growers Association with 932 petitions and an approval rate of 100%, and Coosaw Agent, LLC, which filed 377 petitions with an approval rate of 100%.

Compared to 2023, the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting sector in the state saw a 14% decrease in the number of H-2A petitions filed during 2024.

Despite this, family sponsorship remains the most common path to permanent residency, accounting for 63% of green cards issued in 2023.
