Groundbreaking held for Michael Morris Graham Recreation Center in Aynor

Horry County Parks and Recreation held a ceremonial groundbreaking on Apr. 22 for the future Michael Morris Graham Recreation Center in Aynor.

The new facility is expected to be the first recreation center serving western Horry County, providing new opportunities for local youth and families. Community leaders said the project will help bring people together and support activities for all ages.

“It’s the kids who are going to be influenced by this,” said Councilman Al Allen. “It’s going to be a place where our families and our community can come together—whether it’s for Friday night lights, Saturday games, or simply to watch young people play and dream.”

The $14.5 million center will include an indoor gym, running track, multipurpose rooms, fitness center, four pickleball courts, two basketball courts, lighted multi-use fields, walking trail, and paved parking lot. Bradley Baker of the Aynor Area Athletic Association said: “We want to offer volleyball, we want to offer wrestling, we want to offer those opportunities. A lot goes on in this community, and this community sticks together.”

The recreation center will be located at Michael Morris Graham Park and Athletic Complex at 1253 Vereen Road in Aynor.
