South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Daniel Scott Brothers, 44, of Greenwood, South Carolina. Brothers faces eight charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was carried out by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation also included assistance from investigators with the Attorney General’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, both part of the state’s ICAC Task Force.
The investigation began after a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led authorities to Brothers. According to investigators, Brothers is accused of distributing and possessing files containing child sexual abuse material.
Brothers was taken into custody on September 2, 2025. He is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree under South Carolina law (§16-15-405), each carrying a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison. He also faces six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the third degree (§16-15-410), which are also felony offenses punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment per count.
The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.
Attorney General Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) is used as it more accurately reflects the nature of these crimes compared to “pornography,” which can suggest consent by minors. Internationally, CSAM is replacing previous terminology for this reason.
