Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on March 19.
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – Summerville Town Council has voted to allocate $225,000 from federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to Operation Home, a non-profit with a mission to help people remain in their homes by increasing safety and accessibility. The vote was made at the regularly scheduled council meeting on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Money will go toward home repairs and weatherization for low- and moderate- income homeowners to improve the energy efficiency of their homes for health and safety.
Applications will be accepted by Operation Home on a first-come, first-served basis beginning March 21. Services will be provided until funds are exhausted. The first step in the application process is a phone screening with Operation Home staff to determine eligibility for participation in the program. To be eligible, the applicant must own their home, live within Summerville municipal limits, and have a total household income no greater than 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for their family size.
Services considered for funding include roof repairs, floor repairs, bathroom modifications for individuals with disabilities, addition of a wheelchair ramp, essential safety repairs to plumbing, electrical, and/or HVAC systems.
