U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, alongside Senator John Cornyn and 28 other Senate Republicans, has addressed a letter to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Deputy Director Marvin Richardson. The senators are urging the ATF to align with President Trump’s recent Executive Order on Second Amendment rights.
The group is calling for the rescission of several firearms regulations enacted under former President Biden. These include rules related to “Engaged in the Business,” pistol braces, “ghost guns,” and a “zero tolerance” policy that has led to license revocations for federal firearm licensees over minor violations.
The letter states: “On Friday, February 7, 2025, President Donald J. Trump took decisive action to reaffirm law-abiding Americans’ Second Amendment rights in issuing his Executive Order, Protecting Second Amendment Rights. We urge you to immediately align ATF’s rules and policies with the President’s strong support for the Second Amendment.”
Further emphasizing their position, they added: “Under former President Joe Biden, ATF adopted numerous policies and rules that infringed upon Americans’ Second Amendment protections. President Trump’s Executive Order directs Attorney General Pam Bondi to review and develop a plan of action regarding President Biden’s unlawful firearms regulations. We ask that you work with the Attorney General to quickly identify and rescind these policies.”
The letter was signed by notable figures including Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senators Thom Tillis, John Barrasso, Cindy Hyde-Smith among others.
