U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham addressed the Senate floor, emphasizing the importance of moral clarity in confronting global challenges. He highlighted various international threats, including Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“There are so many things going on in the world right now that are very dangerous,” Graham stated, mentioning threats from China as well. He advised making decisions through a “moral clarity lens” to simplify complex issues.

Graham condemned Russia’s actions in Ukraine, calling it an aggressor and urging for an end to the conflict. He referenced historical examples of moral clarity leading to positive outcomes, such as President John F. Kennedy’s stance on Berlin and Ronald Reagan’s demand for the dismantling of the Berlin Wall.

“When it comes to Putin we need to have moral clarity, as Reagan and Kennedy had with the Soviet Union,” he said.

Discussing former President Donald Trump’s leadership, Graham praised his efforts in addressing trade issues with China and implementing effective border policies. He also commended Trump’s straightforward approach regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities: “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”

Graham expressed appreciation for Trump’s attempts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine but noted that progress has been slow due to a lack of reciprocal action from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The senator also discussed a sanctions bill targeting Russia, which he co-sponsored with Senator Richard Blumenthal. The bill has garnered support from over 80 senators, aiming to increase pressure on Putin by imposing tariffs on nations purchasing Russian oil through non-transparent channels.

“We’re going to act,” Graham declared, emphasizing the political coordination required among U.S. lawmakers and allies. “Seldom do we have a chance to speak with one voice at such an important time.”

He noted that these sanctions are directed at China due to its economic ties with Russia. “Putin’s war machine is propped up by China and India buying Russian oil at a massive discount,” he added.
