U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) announced that President Trump has given approval to a bipartisan Russia sanctions bill that Graham has developed with Senator Blumenthal and others.

“After a very productive meeting today with President Trump on a variety of issues, he greenlit the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill that I have been working on for months with Senator Blumenthal and many others,” Graham said.

He described the timing of the legislation as significant. “This will be well-timed, as Ukraine is making concessions for peace and Putin is all talk, continuing to kill the innocent.”

Graham explained the intent behind the proposed legislation: “This bill will allow President Trump to punish those countries who buy cheap Russian oil fueling Putin’s war machine.”

He further added, “This bill would give President Trump tremendous leverage against countries like China, India and Brazil to incentivize them to stop buying the cheap Russian oil that provides the financing for Putin’s bloodbath against Ukraine.”

Graham expressed optimism about legislative support. “I look forward to a strong bipartisan vote, hopefully as early as next week.”

Senator Graham serves as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and sits on several other committees. He advocates for national defense and fiscal responsibility according to his official website. First elected in 2002, he represents South Carolina in the U.S. Senate and leads efforts related to border security funding bills as part of his work within government. More information about his legislative priorities can be found at his official site.
