Furman University’s Bryn Woodall and Sierra Bishop were named the Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office on April 29.

Woodall achieved a time of 3:39.91 in the 1,500 meters at the Charlotte Invitational on April 24. This result leads the league and ranks him 26th in the NCAA East Region. Bishop secured first place in the women’s 5,000 meters at the same event with a time of 16:33.99, which is currently second best in conference standings by just over one second.

The recognition comes as Furman prepares for its next competition at the Duke Twilight meet scheduled for Sunday in Durham, North Carolina.

Other athletes nominated for this week’s honors included Bradley Franklin from Samford and Painter Richards-Baker and Anthony Hawkins from Western Carolina University on men’s track; Aaliyah Mbenda from Samford and Shaniya Shirley from Western Carolina University on women’s track.

The weekly awards are part of an ongoing series highlighting top performances throughout the outdoor season. Previous honorees this year have included athletes from Wofford College, East Tennessee State University, Virginia Military Institute, Samford University, Western Carolina University, and Furman itself across both track and field events.
