The Furman women’s lacrosse team secured a 13-9 victory over Gardner-Webb in their final regular season game on April 25. The match took place at Spangler Stadium and marked the end of the Big South Conference regular season for both teams.
This win brings Furman’s overall record to 9-8 and their conference record to 5-3, while Gardner-Webb falls to 2-15 overall and 2-6 in conference play. The outcome sets the stage for the upcoming Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
Allie Kandel led Furman with four goals, also contributing four draws and two ground balls. Lily Toole added three goals and one assist, along with a ground ball and a caused turnover. Reynolds Hester and Emily Muir each scored twice and provided an assist. Cassie Larsen recorded a career-high five ground balls, Zoe Milmoe caused three turnovers, Skylar Hilmer won five draws, and goalkeeper Sailor Henderson achieved a career-best eleven saves.
Gardner-Webb’s Maddie Tredway scored three goals while Emma Duchscherer contributed two. Goalie Emma Anderson made thirteen saves during the contest.
Furman established an early lead by scoring four of the first five goals, entering halftime ahead by five at 7-2. Although Gardner-Webb narrowed the gap in the third quarter, Furman responded with timely runs in the fourth quarter to maintain control of the game. The Paladins ended with advantages in shots (33-24), ground balls (19-11), caused turnovers (10-8), draws (14-10), and forced fifteen turnovers from their opponent.
The next phase is the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship starting April 28 at higher-seeded schools, with semifinals on May 1 and finals on May 3 hosted by the league’s top seed.
