The Furman women’s golf team will participate in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, from May 11 to 13, according to an April 29 announcement by the NCAA Division I Golf Committee.

The regional event is important because it offers teams a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Furman is seeded tenth out of twelve teams and must finish among the top five to advance to the national championship, which will take place May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. The Chapel Hill field features four of the nation’s top-25 ranked teams: Texas (No. 5), North Carolina (No. 12), Mississippi State (No. 17), and Oklahoma State (No. 20).

Furman earned its spot by winning its twenty-second Southern Conference Championship last week at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, South Carolina. This marks Furman’s twenty-sixth appearance at an NCAA Regional and continues a tradition that included seventeen consecutive appearances from when regionals began in 1993 through 2010.

Last season, Furman finished ninth at the NCAA Normal Regional. Audrey Ryu placed seventh individually and qualified for the national championship where she tied for forty-seventh after advancing to the final round.

This year’s lineup includes Ryu along with sophomores Jenna Madden and Eva Ringwald and freshmen Ava Hanneman and Olivia Hasselbach; Andrea Marin Raga will travel as an alternate.

The full list of competing teams includes Texas, North Carolina, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Kent State (Mid-American Conference), Virginia, Michigan State, NC State, High Point (Big South Conference), Furman (Southern Conference), Richmond (Atlantic Ten Conference), and Howard (Northeast Conference). Individual competitors are also listed by seed.
