Furman University finished as the runner-up on April 29 at the Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship, held at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina. The Paladins posted a final score of three over par and recorded 13 birdies and an eagle during the last round.

The team’s performance marks its highest finish under head coach Matt Davidson and is Furman’s best result since winning the championship in 2010. Chattanooga won the event with a five-under total, securing an eight-stroke victory over Furman and earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. Mercer placed third, two strokes behind Furman, while UNCG and East Tennessee State rounded out the top five.

Four Furman players finished among the top 21 individually. Senior Harris Barth led his team with a one-under-par round of 67, making five birdies on the back nine—including three consecutive from holes ten to twelve—and moved up ten spots to finish fourth overall. Senior Clark Akers shot even par with five birdies for a tie in twelfth place. Sophomore Ludvig Josefsson also shot even par on Wednesday to tie for nineteenth; he played four under from holes fourteen through sixteen, highlighted by an eagle on hole fifteen.

Senior Zach Frazer contributed a one-under-par round of 70 with four birdies—two coming consecutively—to tie for twenty-first place. Sophomore David Oliver IV tied for twenty-seventh after carding a single birdie during his final-round score of seventy-nine.

Kelvin Hernandez from UNCG was crowned individual champion after setting a new course record with his final-round score of sixty-five, finishing nine under par overall and earning automatic regional qualification.
