Cederick Dion Dixon, a 38-year-old resident of Fort Mill, has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm. The sentencing follows an investigation that began on January 15, 2023, when a South Carolina Highway Patrol state trooper conducted a traffic stop due to a defective equipment violation. Dixon was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.
During the stop, Dixon admitted that his driver’s license was suspended. A records check confirmed his status as a habitual traffic offender. Upon arresting Dixon, officers discovered a small baggie of marijuana in the driver’s side door handle and an open bottle of liquor in the backseat. Further search revealed a firearm, 9mm ammunition, and various narcotics inside a backpack located in the front seat.
Dixon’s previous convictions for attempted armed robbery, unlawful carrying of a weapon, distribution of crack cocaine, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon prohibit him from possessing firearms or ammunition.
United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis sentenced Dixon to 87 months in prison followed by three years of court-ordered supervision. Federal sentences do not include parole.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes fostering trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney William K. Witherspoon is prosecuting.
