A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the South Carolina Elections Commission on February 5, 2025. The request was made by us at Palmetto State News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming spring elections. The information requested included the first, middle, and last names of the candidates, the office they are running for, their jurisdiction, and their party affiliation.

In addition to this, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await the response from the South Carolina Elections Commission regarding this request.
