Jonathan Michael Cain, 43, of Florence, South Carolina, has been arrested on seven charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was made by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, Cain possessed files containing child sexual abuse material and sent sexually explicit images to a minor. He was taken into custody on September 5, 2025.
Cain faces six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the third degree under state law (§16-15-410), each carrying a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. He is also charged with one count of dissemination of obscene material to a person under age twelve (§16-15-355), which carries a possible penalty of up to 15 years imprisonment.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.
Attorney General Alan Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) is used because it more accurately describes the nature of these crimes than “child pornography,” which can imply consent by the victim. Internationally, CSAM is replacing older terminology for this reason.
