A Scranton man has been arrested on six charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor, according to an announcement from South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. Gilberto Angel Valdiviez, Jr., 26, was taken into custody by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Attorney General’s Office, with assistance from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began after a CyberTipline report was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Investigators allege that Valdiviez distributed and possessed files containing child sexual abuse material.

Valdiviez was arrested on January 15, 2026. He faces one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree and five counts in the third degree. Each charge is a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.

The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.

Attorney General Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”

The term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) is used instead of “child pornography” because it more accurately describes these crimes and avoids implying consent by minors.

As South Carolina’s chief prosecutor, legal counsel, and securities regulator, Attorney General Alan Wilson oversees divisions handling criminal cases, civil litigation, and consumer protection. The office also provides victim support services and public safety resources across South Carolina. More information about its work can be found at its official website.
