First Solar, Inc. has announced plans to expand its operations in South Carolina by building a new solar panel production facility in Cherokee County. The company, based in Arizona and recognized as one of the largest solar manufacturers in the Western Hemisphere, will invest approximately $330 million in this project. The new plant is expected to create more than 600 jobs and begin operations in the second half of 2026.

The facility will be located at 121 Logistics Drive in Gaffney. It will handle final production processes for First Solar’s Series 6 modules that are started by its international manufacturing sites. This expansion adds to First Solar’s existing presence in South Carolina, where it already operates a distribution center and works closely with Inland Port Greer.

The Gaffney site will join a network that includes five other vertically integrated manufacturing facilities across three states and a supply chain extending nationwide.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits to support this project.
