First Solar, Inc., a major American manufacturer of photovoltaic solar technology, has announced plans to expand its operations in South Carolina with a new facility in Cherokee County. The company intends to invest about $330 million in the project, which is expected to create more than 600 jobs.
The new production site will be located at 121 Logistics Drive in Gaffney. It will focus on final production processes for Series 6 modules that are started by First Solar’s international operations. This expansion builds on the company’s existing presence in the state, including a distribution center in Duncan and an ongoing partnership with Inland Port Greer.
Founded in 1999 and based in Arizona, First Solar is among the largest solar manufacturers in the Western Hemisphere. The upcoming Gaffney plant will join what is described as one of the largest solar technology manufacturing and research footprints nationwide, adding to five other fully integrated facilities operated by First Solar across three states.
Production at the new facility is scheduled to begin during the second half of 2026. Job seekers interested in positions at First Solar are encouraged to visit the company’s careers page for more information.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits associated with this project.
