U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) has welcomed the approval of more than $200 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reimbursement grants for South Carolina. The announcement came from the Department of Homeland Security, following several years in which the state faced severe weather events, including Hurricanes Ian, Florence, and Helene.
These hurricanes caused significant damage across South Carolina, resulting in loss of life, destruction of homes, and widespread power outages. In response to these disasters, Governor Henry McMaster submitted requests for federal emergency disaster assistance.
Spartanburg County is set to receive over $9.5 million in reimbursement grants as one of the areas most affected by Hurricane Helene. Additionally, the South Carolina Department of Transportation will receive approximately $75 million, while the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina are allocated about $94 million for their roles in storm response efforts throughout the state.
Senator Graham stated: βI applaud the Trump Administration and Secretary Noem for approving more than $200 million in FEMA grants to reimburse South Carolina for its efforts to recover from natural disasters over the past few years. When Hurricane Helene swept through the Palmetto State, it destroyed entire communities, many of which are still rebuilding. These approved funds will reimburse state agencies and other South Carolina organizations that have helped families get back on their feet quicker and made communities whole again,β said Graham. βTo Governor McMaster, thank you for your leadership during these crises and for ensuring these grant applications received the consideration they deserved. To President Trump, thank you for remembering South Carolina and sending help when our people needed it the most.β
The funding aims to help restore financial stability to affected communities as they continue recovery efforts.
