Fairfield County hosted its third Annual Student Leadership Summit on April 30, bringing together students from Fairfield Central High School, Richard Winn Academy, and Midlands STEM Charter School for a day focused on leadership development. The event included activities designed to teach students about the impact of local government on their lives and careers.

The summit matters because it helps prepare young people to become future leaders in the community. Students participated in various sessions including Fairfield County trivia and a Mock County Council Meeting where they voted against school uniforms for all students, declined switching to a four-day school week, and approved a Gateway Signage Project.

Presenters at the event included Vic Carpenter (County Administrator), Jonathan Burroughs (Deputy Administrator), Joseph Toledo (Community Development Director), Brad Douglas (Chief Deputy Sheriff’s Office), Demetrius Chatman (Town of Winnsboro Mayor), Stacy Hare (Chamber of Commerce President), Courtney Jackson (Regional Director Senator Tim Scott’s Office), Kim Roberts (Clerk to Council), Oren Gadson (County Council Member) and Don Goldbach (County Council Member).

Fairfield County supports athletic activities through parks and recreation programs that offer sports, gymnastics, and health classes for various ages, as noted on the official website. The county also enriches community culture with annual festivals, art galleries, historic sites, and museums that provide both entertainment and education according to the official website.

Additionally, Fairfield County maintains important facilities such as the Fairfield County Airport with a 5,243-foot runway along with libraries, museums, parks, and senior centers as outlined on the official website. The county has earned recognition for its magnet school in math and science receiving the Palmetto Finest School distinction as per the official website. Partnerships with entities like Lake Marion Regional Water Agency and Summers Corner Improvement District are also part of ongoing efforts as noted on the official website.

According to information from its official website, Fairfield County focuses on providing exceptional quality of life as well as recreation and business opportunities for residents and visitors. Organizers said they are proud to invest in developing future leaders through events like this summit.
