Fairfield County EMS announced on Apr. 27 that it has received its first-ever Gold designation from the American Heart Association as part of the Mission: Lifeline EMS program, an improvement over last year’s Silver award.

The recognition means that Fairfield County residents experiencing heart attacks, strokes, or cardiac emergencies can expect rapid response and care that meets national standards. The agency stated that crews are able to recognize symptoms quickly, start treatments sooner, follow high standards of care, and work efficiently with hospitals to ensure patients receive timely treatment.

According to the announcement, this achievement reflects Fairfield County EMS’s success in meeting and exceeding national performance standards for both 2024 and 2025 in handling life-threatening emergencies. “Mission: Lifeline is a nationwide program that focuses on improving survival by making sure every step—from the 911 call to hospital treatment—is fast, coordinated, and based on proven medical guidelines. Earning Gold means our system is performing at the highest level,” said officials in the release.

Fairfield County EMS also noted it is one of only 130 emergency medical service agencies nationwide to receive early recognition this year. The agency credited its staff’s hard work and commitment for reaching this milestone: “This achievement is a direct result of the hard work, training, and dedication of our providers—and their commitment to delivering thorough assessments and high-quality care on every call. We couldn’t be more proud of this team and grateful to serve our community.”

In addition to emergency services improvements, Fairfield County supports athletic activities through parks and recreation programs offering sports, gymnastics, and health classes for various ages according to its official website. The county also enriches local culture with annual festivals, art galleries, historic sites, museums providing entertainment and education as reported by its official website. Facilities such as libraries, museums, parks including senior centers are maintained throughout the county along with an airport featuring a 5,243-foot runway according to information provided online.

Educational achievements include recognition for a magnet school specializing in math and science which received the Palmetto Finest School distinction as per details shared by county officials. Partnerships exist between Fairfield County entities like Lake Marion Regional Water Agency and Summers Corner Improvement District according to county records.

Officials say these efforts reflect Fairfield County’s focus on providing quality of life improvements along with recreation opportunities for residents and visitors alike as described by county representatives.
