Eaton, a company known for its expertise in intelligent power management technologies, has announced plans to expand its operations in South Carolina. The company will invest $340 million to establish a new manufacturing facility in Union County, creating 700 jobs. This facility will focus on producing three-phase transformers, essential components for the power grid and various industries.

The new site in Jonesville will be Eaton’s eleventh facility in South Carolina and its third U.S.-based manufacturing location for three-phase transformers. Eaton plans to acquire and retrofit an 861,000-square-foot building at 3805 Furman L. Fendley Highway. The facility aims to support grid modernization efforts by ensuring reliable power distribution for utility infrastructure and commercial applications.

Production is expected to commence in 2027. In the meantime, Eaton is hiring for positions at its existing facilities across South Carolina. The company is collaborating with readySC and regional schools to facilitate hiring and training.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project and awarded a $10 million Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to Union County to assist with building improvements.

Mike Yelton, President of Eaton Electrical Sector Americas Region, stated, “Electrical power demand is increasing dramatically, and our solutions are at the heart of energy systems everywhere.” He expressed gratitude for the collaboration and support from South Carolina as Eaton expands production and job opportunities across the U.S.

Governor Henry McMaster noted that “Eaton’s new operation in Union County…represents a major vote of confidence in South Carolina’s highly skilled workforce.” Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III added that this move underscores the state’s commitment to grid resiliency and modernization.

Union County Supervisor Phillip Russell welcomed Eaton’s investment, acknowledging the confidence it reflects in Union County’s capabilities.

Eaton serves customers worldwide with products designed for data centers, utilities, industrial sectors, commercial buildings, machine building, residential areas, aerospace industries, and mobility markets.
