Charleston Southern senior golfer Dewi John won the individual medalist title at the Big South Men’s Golf Championship, according to an April 28 announcement. The championship took place at Ocean Creek Golf Course on Fripp Island, South Carolina.

John became the fifth player in Charleston Southern history to win this honor. His performance included rounds of 69, 68, and 69 for a total score of seven under par. With this victory, John secured a spot in the NCAA Regionals and will learn his regional assignment during the Selection Show on May 6.

Head coach Scooter Clark said, “I’m so proud of Dewi. He’s had a lot of experience playing here at Fripp Island, some good and some not so good, and he’s handled it all with grace and class. It’s so fitting that his last go around here at the Big South Championship ended with him coming out victorious. I can’t wait to watch him continue his collegiate career and battle with the best in the NCAA Regionals in May!”

The Buccaneers team finished fifth out of eight teams, narrowly missing qualification for match play. Alex North tied for thirteenth place with rounds of 76, 71, and 69 for a total three over par. Theo Takman tied for seventeenth after shooting rounds of 71, 74, and 72. Freshman Owen Newberry placed thirty-sixth overall while Bailey Bjornson finished thirteen over par.

In addition to earning medalist honors, John was named to the All-Championship Team.
