Taylor Molic Morris, a 23-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina, has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison after being convicted for illegally possessing ammunition as a felon. A jury found Morris guilty on June 6, 2025.
According to evidence presented at trial and sentencing, Morris was involved in a shooting at a nightclub on Broad River Road in Columbia on June 11, 2023. During the incident, Morris had a loaded firearm that she had purchased about three weeks earlier. She fired the gun four times during the altercation, leaving behind four shell casings that matched her weapon. Afterward, she fled the scene.
Authorities identified Morris as a validated gang member through the Midlands Gang Task Force prior to this incident. At the time of the shooting, she was on probation for previous convictions of strong arm robbery and bank fraud. These convictions legally prohibited her from owning firearms or ammunition.
United States District Judge Joseph F. Anderson Jr. handed down a sentence of 46 months in prison for Morris, followed by three years of supervised release. Federal sentences do not allow for parole.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lamar Fyall and Ariyana Gore prosecuted the case.
