Willie Roger Davis, a 35-year-old resident of Columbia, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison after being convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to evidence presented during the investigation, officers from the Columbia Police Department stopped a rental moving truck that was reported as sought by its owner. Upon stopping the vehicle, Davis exited from the driver’s seat and approached police officers. A search conducted by law enforcement revealed a .357 revolver in Davis’s pants pocket. Davis admitted to obtaining the firearm from a family member. Records indicate that Davis has previous convictions for armed robbery, strong arm robbery, and burglary.
United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis sentenced Davis to 60 months in prison followed by three years of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole available in the federal system.
The case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities. The program was strengthened on May 26, 2021 with new strategies focused on building community trust, supporting organizations working to prevent violence, prioritizing strategic enforcement actions, and measuring outcomes.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Columbia Police Department investigated this case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Sanford is prosecuting.
“There is no parole in the federal system.”
