The College of Charleston softball team lost 2-1 to Hampton in the second game of their road series on April 18.

This result brings the Cougars’ season record to 22-23 overall and 11-6 in league play. The close contest was marked by strong pitching and timely hits, with both teams battling into extra innings before a winner was decided.

Ryley Kutter led the Cougars from the pitching circle, recording a career-high nine strikeouts over 7.2 innings while allowing only one walk and throwing a total of 128 pitches. Kutter held Hampton scoreless through four innings and added three strikeouts in the bottom of the second inning.

Offensively, Bronwyn Conroy, Savannah Scott, and Halle Cannon each contributed hits for Charleston. Cannon extended her hitting streak to four games while Conroy pushed hers to six games. In the fifth inning, Scott doubled on the first pitch, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Abby Driscoll, and scored off a fielder’s choice to give Charleston a brief lead. However, Hampton tied it up in their half of the fifth inning.

The game remained tied at one run apiece until Hampton secured victory with a base hit with bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sierra Paradis tallied her seventh run batted in (RBI) during Saturday’s contest.

Charleston is scheduled to face Hampton again for the series finale on Sunday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Hampton Softball Stadium. After this conference series concludes, they will host Charleston Southern for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 22.
