Coastal Carolina University’s track and field team completed the first day of competition at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida on May 1. The event featured several notable performances from Coastal Carolina athletes.

The results are important for the team as they prepare for the conclusion of the meet on its second day. Strong showings in events such as the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase and women’s long jump highlight individual achievements within a competitive field.

Sterling Sellier finished first in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:11.75. Emelia Thurston secured eighth place in the women’s long jump, reaching a distance of 5.91 meters. Bethany Simpson placed sixth in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:16.40.

The meet is set to conclude with its second day tomorrow, offering more opportunities for Coastal Carolina athletes to compete and improve their standings.
