Clemson University announced on May 2 that its No. 24 ranked women’s tennis team lost to No. 14 Vanderbilt, 4-1, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament held in Nashville.

The match ended Clemson’s season after a strong run that saw them reach the national tournament and compete against higher-ranked opponents. The result marks the end of postseason play for the Tigers this year.

During doubles play, Clemson’s Jade Groen and Rinon Okuwaki faced Vanderbilt’s Sophia Webster and Celia-Belle Mohr but lost their match 6-3. The Commodores secured the doubles point with a win on court three, while another Clemson pair was trailing when doubles concluded. In singles competition, Groen was defeated by Mohr on court one, giving Vanderbilt an early lead. Artemis Aslanisvili provided Clemson’s only point with a straight-set victory over Erin Pearce on court five.

Vanderbilt extended its advantage as Valeria Ray beat Romana Cisovska and Bridget Stammel won against Okuwaki after a close first set tiebreaker. At the time of clinch, matches involving Ria Bhakta and Talia Neilson-Gatenby were left unfinished.

The Tigers finished their season with an overall record of 19-9 and a conference record of 7-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
