Clemson track and field posts top performances at Wake Forest and Tom Jones meets

Clemson reported on April 17 that its athletes achieved notable results on the first day of the Wake Forest Invitational and Tom Jones Memorial competitions.

The events marked significant milestones for Clemson’s women’s distance runners, with Elizabeth Ilanda finishing seventh in the 10,000 meters at Wake Forest in a time of 34:30.65, placing her third on Clemson’s all-time top ten list. Emily Lamontagne followed closely behind with a ninth-place finish in 34:34.33, moving to fourth on the school’s all-time list.

At the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida, Emma Fortuna completed four events of the heptathlon and currently sits seventh overall with 2,866 points. Danya Spoor is ninth after scoring 2,487 points through four events.

Other results from Wake Forest included Knox Young finishing fourth in the men’s 800-meter open race (1:54.74), Charlie Stock placing third (1:53.98) and Jacob Serra fourth (1:54.36) in another section of the men’s 800 meters. In women’s middle-distance races, Gladys Chepngetich won her heat of the women’s invitational 800 meters (2:00.67), while Judy Kosgei finished second (2:01.52). Madelyn Dinneen took third place (2:11.44) and Madison Timms fourth place (2:12.09) in another section of the women’s open 800 meters.

In field events at Tom Jones Memorial, Fortuna recorded eighth place finishes in both high jump and shot put segments of her heptathlon effort while Spoor placed ninth or eleventh across those disciplines.

Clemson said it will continue competition at both meets tomorrow as scheduled.
