Clemson men’s tennis defeats Mississippi 4-3 in NCAA Tournament first round

Clemson defeated Mississippi 4-3 on May 1 in Tucson, Arizona, during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers will play either No. 8 Arizona or Northern Arizona on May 2.

The match began with Clemson securing the doubles point after wins on the top two courts. Viktor Markov and Noa Vukadin, ranked No. 22, earned a 6-3 victory over Ole Miss’ Milburn and Stromberg at No. 1 doubles. Henrik Bladelius and Marko Mesarovic followed with a 6-4 win against D’Agostino and Pampanin at court two, while play was halted on court three as Clemson’s Farzam and Lopez led their opponents.

In singles competition, Ole Miss took an early lead when Jankanj defeated Bladelius in straight sets. Clemson quickly responded as Farzam beat Pampanin to even the score. Vukadin then won a close match against Chambonniere to give Clemson its first singles lead before Stromberg of Ole Miss leveled it again by defeating Lopez.

D’Agostino put Ole Miss ahead by rallying past Markov at court one, but Mesarovic clinched the final point for Clemson by outlasting Schlagenhauf in three sets on court five.

The Tigers will continue their tournament run facing either site host Arizona or Northern Arizona next.
