Clemson defeated No. 7 Coastal Carolina 8-4 on May 6 at Springs Brooks Stadium, extending its winning streak to three games.
The victory is significant for Clemson, now holding a record of 29-20, as it demonstrates the team’s ability to compete with top-ranked opponents and maintain momentum late in the season.
Nate Savoie reached base five times and scored three runs while Jack Crighton went 4-for-5. The Tigers scored in four separate innings and responded each time Coastal Carolina attempted to close the gap. Clemson’s breakthrough came in the third inning when Tryston McCladie singled to right field, scoring two runs after bases were loaded against Coastal starter Jackson Smallets.
In the sixth inning, Savoie doubled off the right field wall to score Tyler Lichtenberger and later crossed home plate on a wild pitch following an error by Blake Barthol. Although Walker Mitchell hit a two-run double for Coastal Carolina in their half of the sixth, cutting Clemson’s lead to two runs, the Chanticleers struggled with runners in scoring position—going just 2-for-14 and leaving fourteen men on base.
Clemson widened its lead again in the eighth inning through timely hitting from Lichtenberger and Gaffney before Jason Fultz Jr. added a sacrifice bunt RBI in the ninth. Drew Titsworth earned his fourth win of the season after pitching two clean innings following Danny Nelson’s scoreless start; Hayden Simmerson closed out the game for Clemson.
The team will return home Friday to open an Atlantic Coast Conference series against Florida State at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
